Bethesda, Maryland April 17, 2007 - A forthcoming article entitled: .Dialysis Facility Ownership and Epoetin Dosing in Patients Receiving Hemodialysis. is to be published in the April 18th issue of Journal of the American Medical Association (Thamer et al. Dialysis... JAMA, 2007 Apr 18;297(15):1667-74). Investigators examined epoetin dosing patterns among 159,522 hemodialysis patients and found that dialysis facility epoetin practice patterns are associated with organizational status (independent vs. chain affiliation and for-profit vs. not-for-profit). Specifically, the largest for-profit chains used the highest doses of epoetin regardless of anemia status (i.e. hematocrit level), larger dose adjustments, and target higher hematocrit levels.
