Statistician With Expertise in Causal ModelingThe Medical Technology and Practice Patterns Institute (MTPPI), a non-profit health care research organization located in the Washington DC area, seeks a qualified candidate with a PhD or Master's degree in statistics/biostatistics. Specifically, we request that the appropriate candidate possess theoretical knowledge and demonstrated use of one or more of the following techniques for causal model estimation in the presence of time dependent confounding such as g-estimation, dynamic treatment regimens, marginal structural models, and structural nested models.
Publications demonstrating the candidate's competence in the area of causal modeling are essential. Additional skills that are highly recommended for the qualified candidate are a history of successful grant writing and, in particular, the application of causal modeling techniques to address various hypotheses.

Senior Health Services/Health Economics ResearcherThe Medical Technology and Practice Patterns Institute, a non-profit health care research organization, seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Senior Health Services/Health Economics Researcher.
The position is open to candidates holding a Ph.D. degree in economics, health economics, public health, statistics or epidemiology with at least 7 years experience, or a Masters degree with 10 or more years of experience. The position will focus on practice patterns, pharmacoeconomics, cost-of-illness studies, and health care financing issues. To accomplish these tasks, he/she will initiate new grant or contract supported projects.
The Senior Researcher should have broad interests in health services research and/or health economics; have a strong commitment to advancements in this field of endeavor; have a notable record of academic achievement and/or project management experience; and a demonstrated history of publications, reports and project sponsorship.

Senior Programmer
The Medical Technology and Practice Patterns Institute (MTPPI), a nonprofit organization that specializes in health services research, health policy analysis, and medical technology assessment, has an opening for a Senior Programmer.
He/she will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a large, multi-year study that uses third-party payer administrative claims among other data sources. Candidates are required to have at least 5 years of programming in SAS, and should have particular expertise in the manipulation of large data sets. Experience in using health-related data, including Medicaid/Medicare databases and national health surveys in the conduct of health services research studies is desirable.
Additional desirable characteristics include: a masters degree with quantitative and/or statistical training, familiarity with UNIX environments, some knowledge of C, and good communications skills.

Part-time database and systems manager
The Medical Technology and Practice Patterns Institute (MTPPI), a non-profit health care research organization located in the metropolitan Washington DC area, seeks a qualified candidate who is capable of securely managing a heterogenous network of linux servers and Windows 2000 PCs as well as a variety of databases. Technologies in use include thin clients, samba, cyrus imap, mysql, apache, VPNs and smartcards. An understanding of HIPAA security requirements is highly desirable. Applicants with SAS programming and research or statistical expertise will be considered for full-time positions, as well.
