Since 1986, MTPPI's function has been to promote education and conduct research related to health care technology. The Institute's collaboration with other centers of excellence has been the optimal way to meet this objective.
Recently, an international network of Collaborating Centers (CC) was formed to study dialysis services, especially anemia management, and outcomes. CCs provide MTPPI with clinical expertise, assistance in study design and analysis, and access to detailed electronic medical records, under the auspices of approved outcomes research studies. MTPPI provides project and data base management, statistical analysis, interpretation of results, and development of manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals.
Based on MTPPI analysis and results of public use data, such as: the United States Renal Data System (USRDS), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), the ESRD networks, and other private sector information sources, the collaboration will formulate projects to address specific clinical questions that require analysis of detailed treatment-to-treatment and/or clinical laboratory information. Each project will contain the following elements:
Formulation of objectives and grant requests Upon approval, development of a related DSOC data base; and Statistical analysis, interpretation of results and development of publications This collaboration is intended to integrate the best research evidence and clinical expertise and to make a substantial contribution to the evolution of evidence-based medicine.
